Public Transport

There is a good bus and train service paralleling the canal between Ambergate and Cromford, but the rest of the canal is less well served. This map will give you an idea of what services are available.

Ripley offers a good starting point for one-way walks using buses both out and back, with direct services to Ambergate, Hartshay, Ironville, Pinxton and Langley Mill. All services leave from Market Place. Many of these rural buses run only once an hour, so timing is important. Also bear in mind that many are local council subsidised services, and are subject to change over the years, so do check before travelling. All current local bus timetables are downloadable from www.derbysbus.info.

Car Parking

There are pay & display car parks at Cromford Wharf, High Peak Junction (Lea Road, not A6) and at Ambergate and Whatstandwell stations. There is a small canalside car park at Whatstandwell, a large car park on the Coach Road beside Codnor Park Reservoir, and roadside parking near the Boat Inn at Pinxton, close to the Canal Inn at Bullbridge, on Main Road at Lower Hartshay and on Linkmel Road beside the Great Northern Inn at Langley Mill.
