The Dardanelles Campaign 1915
A talk by Anthony Laven
Not all military engagements in World War I occurred in the trenches of the Western Front. Several significant battles took place in the Middle East, where the British Army, along with troops from India, New Zealand, and Australia, fought against the Ottoman Empire.
At first, the British aimed to defend the Suez Canal. However, the objective later shifted toward defeating Ottoman forces, culminating in one of the earliest major amphibious operations of modern warfare. In April 1915, British Empire and French troops landed on the Ottoman-controlled peninsula at the Dardanelles Straits.
